07/12/2023

Belgrade, 01.12.2023. – The T-S Legal law firm, in collaboration with the Serbian Film Directors Association and UFUS AFA PROTECTION, was the organizer of the panel on the protection and collection of copyrights, as part of the accompanying program of the 29th Author’s Film Festival.

Stevan Pajović, a partner at T-S Legal and the chief legal representative of UFUS AFA PROTECTION, was one of the participants in the panel and spoke about the current film authors’ rights in relation to current laws and what the new acts that are in the process could bring – the Law on copyright and related rights and the Law on film and other audiovisual heritage. During the discussion, he referred to the importance of new European directives that significantly improve the treatment of authors because they recognize their right to compensation regardless of the contracts they previously signed, which are already applied in twenty European countries.

Panel participants also included Stefan Galineo, the director of UFUS AFA PROTECTION, who highlighted the UFUS AFA PROTECTION’s achievements in preventing the adoption of the Draft Law on copyright and related rights and establishing the right of film authors to collect royalties, as well as Ivan Ikić, the president of the Serbian Film Directors Association, who emphasized the importance of returning the rights to authors for rebroadcasting of films and series.

The panel participants expressed satisfaction that the new Law on electronic media stipulates that all Serbian television stations, in the total annual program, must have a minimum of 25 percent of broadcasts of domestic audiovisual works, which include films and series.

Through its participation and organization of such events, T-S Legal supports the improvement of the system of protection and collection of film authors’ copyrights.
