Stevan Pajović, a partner and expert in media law at the T-S Legal Law Firm, played an active role in the first panel discussion of the conference “26. Radio Days”, organized by the Association of Radio Stations RAB SERBIA, which was held in Zlatibor from October 29 to 31. This event traditionally brings together owners, directors, editors, radio presenters, and other professionals in the radio industry from Serbia, North Macedonia, Croatia, and other regional countries. Discussions focused on industry trends, technologies, and the future of the radio industry in Serbia and the region, as well as recently adopted legal frameworks for electronic media.
During the session dedicated to discussing new media laws, Stevan, a member of the working group responsible for amending electronic media regulations, presented an overview of the most significant changes in the law that pertain to local radio stations. Stevan highlighted that the introduction of the legal option to establish media networks would greatly simplify the operations of local radio stations, primarily by enhancing their competitiveness in the advertising sector. On the flip side, he noted that the opportunity to address the issue of insufficient radio signal coverage in areas for which radio stations were licensed had been missed with the new law.
The conference was opened with introductory speeches by Dr. Katarina Tomašević, Assistant Minister responsible for electronic communications and postal services at the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications, and Maja Raković, the president of RAB SERBIA.
Ms. Raković and other participants emphasized the significance of the Association’s work, which became particularly prominent during recent public discussions on the Draft Law on Public Information and Media and the Draft Law on Electronic Media in various cities in Serbia. Their contribution was evident in the high-quality and constructive proposals for amending media laws.
After being adopted by the National Assembly of Serbia, the Law on Public Information and Media and the Law on Electronic Media came into effect on November 5, marking a significant step in regulating the media sector in Serbia. These laws introduce a significant innovation, allowing radio stations to form associations in accordance with the adopted regulatory acts, thereby contributing to the development of the radio industry in Serbia and the improvement of its professional standards.
